Your Pre-appointment checklist
□ If this is your first FAA medical exam: Please consider scheduling a consultation first, unless you have absolutely no prior health history. Click here to watch my YouTube video about the first medical. If you need an aviation psychiatry / HIMS psychiatry full evaluation, please CLICK HERE. Also, if this is your first FAA medical exam, you will need to complete a computer-based color vision test. There is an additional fee of $50 for that test. You do not need to schedule it separately.
□ YOU MUST SUBMIT AN APPLICATION ON THE FAA MEDXPRESS WEBSITE FOR EVERY FAA MEDICAL EXAM. CLICK HERE FOR MEDXPRESS. MedXpress applications stay valid for 60 days after they are submitted. Please bring a printed copy of your application to your exam. This step is not required for AME or HIMS consultations or aviation psychiatry appointments. In the profile section of MedXpress, please make sure you have entered your full name including first, middle, and last names.
□ If you are on a special issuance or have a CACI-qualified condition (like hypertension, hypothyroidism, weight loss medication, etc.): be sure that you have all the necessary documentation together before your appointment. You can email documentation to Dr. Weatherby before the appointment (drweatherby@denverame.com), or bring it in with you. For more information about CACI conditions, click here.
□ Cancellation policy: Appointments may be canceled and rescheduled without a fee more than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time. You can do this yourself online using the link from the Square reminder or confirmation. If you are unable to cancel that way, please email me. Cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment or missed appointments will result in a fee of $100 for a standard medical, and $200 for a 1-hour/HIMS appointment.
□ Appointment availability & walk-ins: If you do not see an opening soon enough or on a day you prefer, please submit a waitlist request on the scheduling website. I can often get people in within a day or two if needed.
□ Day of exam: All FAA medical exams are done in-person. You will need to give a urine sample, so be well-hydrated. I must have a copy of your MedXpress application and/or confirmation number to do your exam, so bring that with you!
□ EKGs: If you are 35-39 years old, are applying for a 1st-class medical, and have not had an EKG at a previous FAA exam, that will be added on at the time of your exam. You do not need to schedule it separately. If you are a 1st-class applicant over 40, you'll need an EKG once a year. The cost of the EKG is $100 added on to the cost of your exam.
